RACING

Racing with Brumski

Everyone is welcome to come and get involved with racing. We don't have trials, we are not all pro ski racers. We provide ample opportunity for club racers starting their time at University to enter the competitive University snowsports scene with ease, helping many others at the same time to make their first attempt at a hugely rewarding sport. We are up for a lot of fun and keen to get as many skiers and snowboarders involved with the race team as possible! Joining the University Sport AU as an athlete gives you access to many subsidised goodies such as considerably reduced competition entry and to the leagues we are a part of.

Race Training
Every Wednesday there is race training at Ackers, the local dry slope, also frequently heading to Gloucester Ski Centre, with sessions on gate technique, turns, starts, or just wanting to challenge each other to races on a duals setup. Ellie Tregoning, our ski captain, is brimming with knowledge on ski technique, holding respectable instructor qualifications and experience of teaching in both of the world's hemispheres. Our president Issy Yeung holds endless experience on the national circuit, knowing all there is to know about ski racing, prepping, technique and is happy to give feedback if you have any questions. Molly Bell, our snowboard race captain is more than willing to help out anyone who has any boarding related questions and will serve as the driving force behind our developing competitive snowboarding movement.

Competitions
Brumski compete in the Midlands league of the Kings university ski and board races. From seasoned club racers to those who just want to have a lot of fun, can complete linked turns and use a button lift, there is a team for you, ranging from our Firsts challenging amongst the league's frontrunners, to the Fifths who bolster the buzzing participatory atmosphere at these events. At the end of the year, the qualifying teams (and a big crew of Brumski supporters) head down to London or Gloucester for the Kings National Finals.

We head to Edinburgh every year for BUDS (The 'DC' Dryslope Championships), entering many for their first BUCS-sanctioned race and providing a chance for our more serious competitors to pick up BASS and BUCS points in seeded rounds as part of an insanely exciting weekend. We attend the BUiSC indoor snowdome series in the second term, taking place in various snowdomes across the UK. For our best racers & freestylers, there is also the opportunity to represent the University at the British Universities Alpine Championships (Above & Below) at Easter every year, for a week of elite-level alpine competition, with full events in Slalom, Giant Slalom, Super-G, Downhill and Ski Cross.
